Senior Business Analyst

Our head office is based in central Manchester and is the home to many of our central functions. To support our continued ambitious growth plans, we are delighted to be recruiting for a Senior Business Analyst to join our fantastic IS team.

What are we looking for?  

Our technical environment is Microsoft centric with our core systems of Dynamics 365 (CE and F&O) and Office 365 integrated with a range of in-house developed Azure deployed services, portals and apps, along with a Windows based mobile platform that supports our 700 strong team of field-based Engineer Surveyors. We have a broad portfolio of work to deliver during 2024, all of which will provide opportunity to leverage your skillset to help drive our business forward.

The successful candidate will have a passion for their work, with the ability to proactively lead the lifecycle of technical change, which will require a proficiency in data analysis, process mapping, change management techniques and effective stakeholder engagement.

What will I be doing?  

For over 160 years, our highly skilled surveyors and engineering consultants have inspected, tested and reported on all types of industrial machinery. As a leader in our field in the UK and Ireland our services cover anything from large plant and pipelines to escalators and retail coffee machines to ensure industry, businesses and the public are safe and that will never change.  

This role offers an outstanding opportunity to join our business at a key moment in its growth and evolution of our systems landscape. The skills that you bring will allow you to play important roles on multiple enterprise Group wide projects, including the integration of new businesses that we acquire. Additionally, we have a rich digital transformation portfolio of business improvement projects, including the evolution of our customer portals and mobile apps.

Working in the Information Systems (IS) team and reporting to the Head of CRM Technology and Policy Systems, your role in general will require you to find ways to use technology to continuously improve our customer service and the efficiency of our operations. Playing a pivotal role within the team you will use your skills to lead the gathering of requirements, writing process and functional design specifications and working with our development team to deliver fit for purpose solutions. You will have direct responsibility for engaging with end users and driving new ideas through to completion, as well as supporting the day-to-day running of key IS systems. 

Success in this role will require: 

  • Lead the delivery of work across a range of project portfolios across our IS systems landscape.
  • Across a the project portfolio you will gather requirements, prepare functional and process design documents, provide support to developers, prepare acceptance test scripts and data, execute acceptance tests, and support end user training and acceptance testing.
  • Analyse business process models to identify where existing or new technology can be used to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Working with a range of data analysis tools to provide business insight to drive educated decision making as part of the broader project.
  • Working with key stakeholders from across the business to identify needs, propose solutions, evaluate changes and manage their expectations.
  • Deliver end user training on a train the trainer basis to support the successful operational adoption of system changes.

What experience do I need?

To work for us you must have the right attitude, aptitude and appetite for what we do.  As a minimum, you will have:  

  • At least 3-years’ experience in a business or systems analyst role working on system and process improvement projects.
  • Experience leading the analysis for concurrent medium to large scale system delivery and improvement projects, using a combination of waterfall and agile methodologies.
  • Experience leading the delivery of data migration projects.
  • Experience using and configuring Microsoft Dynamics 365, or another enterprise CRM, ERP and\or enterprise Finance systems.
  • Experience delivering supporting applications. E.g. Power apps, web technologies and mobile apps.
  • Some exposure to the insurance, engineering services industries, ideally within a merger and acquisition environment.
    • Proven experience as a business analyst in the analysis and preparation of requirements, documentation of system functional and process designs, and the preparation and execution of acceptance test scripts.
    • Management experience of medium to large (10+ person, 4+ month) system improvement projects.
  • Some hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies and platforms, particularly Dynamics 365 (CE or F&O) and Power Platform.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills in particular the use of Excel to prepare, clean and analyse data through pivot tables and formulae.
  • Experience of utilising enterprise ETL tools to facilitate data migration activity.
  • Experience of decommissioning of systems and data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Proven team player and self-starter who is also able to work autonomously.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to identify acceptable solutions to business problems.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and time management.
  • Ability to respond to rapidly changing business priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience of influencing the enablement of business process change throughout multi-disciplined teams (e.g. implementation of Agile, DevOps, CI\CD and data reporting practices).
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, IS or a related field.
  • Certification in Microsoft technologies and platforms, particularly Dynamics and Power Platform technologies.
  • Exposure to some business relevant programming language (e.g., SQL, VBA etc).
  • Experience of accounting processing and finance systems.
  • Line management and mentorship experience of IT team members.
